DETROIT – Today, Bishop John H. Sheard, senior pastor of the Greater Mitchell Temple Church of God In Christ (COGIC), endorsed Mayor Mike Duggan in his reelection bid.

“In 2013, the Mayor surprised me – he surprised many of us – when he won the election,” said Bishop Sheard. “However, from the beginning the mayor has been working hard for the residents of Detroit.   We can see improvements and the progress being made cannot be denied.  The city is positioned better today than it was before the mayor took office.  We can’t afford to lose momentum which is why I join with many of my fellow clergy to support Mayor Duggan.”

Bishop Sheard joins a wave of grassroots support for Mayor Duggan’s re-election, including more than 100 Detroit faith leaders, the 13th Congressional District Democratic Party Organization and labor unions which collectively represent thousands of Detroit voters. Congressman John Conyers, Jr., Wayne County Executive Warren Evans, Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon and Detroit Branch NAACP President Rev. Dr. Wendell Anthony have all spoken out strongly in favor of Mayor Duggan’s re-election, too.
