DETROIT – Labor support for Mayor Mike Duggan’s re-election grows today with joint endorsements from the Mechanical Contractors Association (MCA) Detroit and Plumbers Local 98.  Plumbers Local 98, was the first union to make the Skilled Trades Employment Program (STEP) commitment. Its leadership, in partnership with MCA Detroit, has committed to tripling the number of Detroit residents in its local over the next 10 years and will build towards that by ensuring 25% Detroit resident enrollment in all of their incoming apprenticeship classes.

“Mechanical Contractors Association (MCA) Detroit, and its Board of Directors is proud to announce their unanimous approval to endorse and support Mayor Mike Duggan’s reelection campaign,” said Laura Reyes Kopack JD, Director of Government Affairs & Community Relations, MCA Detroit. “MCA along with Plumbers Local 98 were the first to partner with the City of Detroit’s Skilled Trades Employment Program to increase the opportunities in our industry for apprentices and pre-apprentices.  We anticipate more opportunities for people that are interested in a parallel college career path that allows you to earn while you learn.  MCA and its contractors are pleased to see the rebirth of a city under Mayor Duggan’s leadership.  We are excited for the future of Detroit and the reelection of Mayor Duggan to continue to move the needle forward.”
