DETROIT – Today, AFSCME Michigan Council 25 was the latest Detroit labor union to endorse Mike Duggan for re-election as Mayor of the City of Detroit.

“We’re proud to endorse Mayor Mike Duggan for a second term, because he’s the best choice to create jobs and good opportunities for all of our city’s working people,” said Lawrence A. Roehrig, president of AFSCME Council 25. “Over the next four years, the men and women of AFSCME look forward to partnering with the Mayor and his team to build one city for all of us, and to ensure our city’s comeback benefits every Detroiter, in every neighborhood.”

AFSCME Michigan Council 25 represents about 8,000 workers between Detroit and Wayne County and more than 90,000 public workers across Michigan. It is the latest union to endorse Mayor Duggan’s re-election, joining the Metro Detroit AFL-CIO, Greater Detroit Building and Construction Trades Council, Mechanical Contractors Association of Detroit, Plumbers Local 98, UNITE HERE Local 24, Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwrights, Detroit Police Officers Association, Detroit Police Lieutenants and Sergeants Association, and Detroit Fire Fighters Association in supporting Mayor Duggan. Combined, these unions represent tens of thousands of Detroit voters.

AFSCME’s endorsement also follows recent endorsements for Mayor Duggan’s re-election by the Detroit Free Press and Detroit News, which highlighted the mayor’s track record of improving quality of life in the city’s neighborhoods and expanding job training opportunities for our city’s workers.

“Thanks to the men and women of AFSCME Michigan Council 25 for their endorsement today,” said Mayor Duggan. “I’ll keep fighting for good jobs and opportunities for every Detroiter in every neighborhood, and know with the support of AFSCME, we’ll be able to do even more together.”
