Today, the Detroit Police Officers Association, Detroit Police Lieutenants and Sergeants Association and Detroit Fire Fighters Association – which collectively represent more than 3,000 active and retired Detroit police officers and firefighters – endorsed Mike Duggan for re-election as Mayor of the City of Detroit.

Mayor Duggan: “This agreement is the most comprehensive plan in the state to train residents for careers in the skilled trades. Detroit residents should directly benefit from all of the construction in the city."
In front of a capacity crowd of more than 1,200 supporters, Mike Duggan today announced he would be running for a second term as Mayor of the City of Detroit.
"Since it was launched, Project Green Light has helped to bring about sustained reductions in violent crime at or near participating businesses. A recent analysis of reported crimes shows that the original 8 Green Light gas stations continue to see a nearly 40% reduction in violent crime."
Today, DDOT announced a major new bus expansion, including three new 24-hour and express bus routes connecting Detroit's neighborhoods with major employment centers. There are now nine 24-hour bus services – up from zero 24-hour services just a year ago.
For the first time in generations, Detroiters can step outside at night anywhere in the city and expect to see their street lit. 40 percent of the city's 88,000 lights weren't functioning just three years ago.
The city began offering the behind-bars training in October 2016. When Duggan visited the Detroit Reentry Center last year, he said an inmate told him it was first time he had received job training, and he wished he hadn't gone to prison to get it. "If Detroit's comeback is going to be successful, we need everybody's talents and this is a way to make sure we use the talents of people who have paid their debt," Duggan said in an interview.
